The Spaniards live inSpain. They are tall, andthin, with dark complexions.The men shave their beards,but leave mustachios ontheir upper lip. The gentlemenpay great regard tothe ladies, and it is commonfor a gentleman to approacha lady with his knees bended,kissing her hands.
The Indians are the peoplethat inhabited this countrybefore the white peoplecame here. They are of acopper color, with longblack hair and small eyes.They wear but little clothingand live in small huts.
The Italians live in Italy,one of the most beautifulcountries in the world.Italy produces very finegrapes, and many of thepeople are engaged in tendingthe vineyards.
There are various racesof people in South America.Some are Indians, some Negroes,and some Spaniards.In dress the ladies followthe Spanish fashion. Theyare fond of ornaments.
The Turks live in Turkey.Their complexionsare fair, and the women areconsidered very handsome.They are fond of smoking,and use long pipes. TheTurks are solemn, grave, &slow, but easily provoked.
The Russians are astrong, hardy people, andvery industrious. Theircountry is cold, and theground is covered with snowmost of the year. TheRussians resemble the Englishin appearance, but thewomen paint themselveswith rouge.
The Hindoos live in thesouthern part of Asia. Theyhave dark complexions, andare very ignorant. Theyare idolaters, and worshipstrange images of everyshape and color.
