The objective of the CentralSolomons campaign was the Japanese airfieldon Munda Point, which, in friendly hands,would be a stepping-stone in the conquest ofthe Solomon Islands chain. The airfield runswest to east and a taxi-way snakes throughboth sides of the field. Kokengolo Hill is onits north side.
