ACTING RIGHTS.

NOTICE.—The attention of those who take part in ororganise dramatic representations should be called to the lawon copyright. All representations of copyright dramaticworks are liable to fees, if either money or considerationbe taken for admission, tickets sold, a collection made, orwhere any theatre, hall, or other place be hired for suchpurpose. It is absolutely necessary that the fees for playsshould be paid in advance and an authorised permissionobtained, otherwise each person taking part, or causingsuch play to be represented, is severally liable to a penaltyor damages, under 3rd and 4th William IV., c. 15, sec. 2.By means of the telegraph, injunctions can be obtained torestrain performances, which, if ignored, would lead to theimprisonment of the offenders. Agents are appointed inall parts of the kingdom, and are authorised to collect feeson behalf of the various authors or proprietors, and areempowered to exact full penalties where fees have notbeen paid in advance. It is not necessary to have aprinted notice on a play to the effect that it is copyright,although this is done in many instances. To save uselesscorrespondence it must be strictly understood that noreduction can be made on account of a performance takingplace for the benefit of a charity, or any other cause whatever.Any information on this subject can be obtainedby sending a stamped directed envelope to SAMUELFRENCH, Ltd., 26, Southampton Street, Strand, London.Fees on the plays which S. French, Ltd., collects for mustbe paid by P.O.O. or cheque to the above address, or theauthorised Agents.

The fees to Amateurs will be as follow, if paid in advance:—

1 Act Pieces.2 Acts.3 Acts.
From 10s. 6d. to 42s.15s. to 63s.21s. to £5 5s.

BURLESQUES and OPERAS are charged as 3 Act Plays.

It is advisable to ascertain the correct amount before remitting.No fees can be refunded.

A Circular respecting the liability incurred in playing copyrightdramatic works without permission can be had on application.
