From this discourse it is clearthat the long looked-fordiscovery of the Indian Seadoes nearly approach; andCarolina, out of her happyexperience of your Lordshipssuccess in great undertakings, presumesthat the accomplishment of this gloriousDesigne is reserved for her. In order towhich, the Apalatæan Mountains (thoughlike the prodigious Wall that divides Chinaand Tartary, they deny Virginia passageinto the West Continent) stoop to yourLordships Dominions, and lay open a Prospectinto unlimited Empires; Empires thatwill hereafter be ambitious of subjectionto that noble Government which by yourLordships deep wisdom and providencefirst projected, is now established in Carolina;for it will appear that she flourishesmore by the influence of that, than the advantagesshe derives from her Climate andSoyl, which yet do render her the Beautyand Envy of North-America. That all herglories should be seen in this Draught, isnot reasonably to be expected, since the fateto my Author but once, and then too witha side-face; and therefore I must own it wasnever by him designed for
