Since this Work was commenced the compiler has been induced atthe solicitation of numerous subscribers, to alter the plan ofit, by issuing a Street Edition only, at a Reduced Price, viz., 2s., and to publish TwoEditions in each year; the first in the early part of December, and the second in the first week in July.
The following circumstances seem to justify the above mode ofpublication:—Railway companies, by taking so much houseproperty for their use, are frequently making changes in this aswell as in other parts of London; private residences in everyeligible position are converted into business premises; the Boardof Works continue to make new streets, &c., alter the namesof old ones, and re-number house property to a greatextent. Then again there is a continual migration, and arapid increase in this locality, which in many respects, make anyDirectory six or eight months old comparatively useless, and evenworse than useless, hence the reasons for abridging this Work andpublishing Two Corrected Editions in one year at a little morethan the price of one.
Purchasers of the first may exchange it for the second or JulyEdition for 1/6.
The map published with this Work is valuable, inasmuch as itcontains nearly the whole of the alterations made in the Districtup to September last, and the newest of any now before thepublic, being worth at least one-half of the price charged forthe Directory.
The proprietor has carefully compared this Work with thosewhich are supposed to take in all London, and as far as thisDistrict is concerned, whether as regards New Streets, &c.,or the including the whole of the population, there can be nodoubt that the “West London StreetDirectory” is indispensable both to the man ofbusiness and to private families.
The Advertisements in this Edition will be inserted in the onepublished in July free of charge.
In conclusion, the proprietor thanks his subscribers andadvertisers for their support, and regrets that the work is late, but hopes through the new arrangement that he will be punctual in future.
