"The Young Hunters in Porto Rico" has beenwritten at the earnest solicitation of a numberof my young readers, who wished to follow thefurther adventures of the Gun and Sled Club.

In a former volume of this series, "Gun andSled," I related how the club was formed andwhat a jolly time its members had during a winterouting on Snow-Top Island. In the presenttale, one of the members becomes the proudowner of a yacht, and of course nothing will dobut to take an ocean trip on the craft. Duringthis trip the boys learn of a Spanish treasuresaid to be secreted in one of the great caves nearCaguas, on the island of Porto Rico, and atonce a hunt is instituted, and many stirringadventures follow.

The work was written primarily for the reader'samusement, yet I have endeavored withinits pages to give a fair description of the PortoRico of to-day, as it appears to a traveler fromivour States. This new island domain of ours isbut little known to the majority of us, but whenits picturesqueness, and its mild climate, becomea matter of publicity, Porto Rico is boundto become the Mecca for thousands of Americantourists, in search of health and pleasure.

From the number of letters received, I amled to believe that "Gun and Sled" was wellliked by my readers. If this is so, I sincerelytrust that the present volume does not fall belowthe other in merit.
