The object of this volume is to present in a convenientform the results of research and explorationconcerning the history and buildings of the city ofJerusalem—results which have accumulated duringthe last half-century, but which are scattered inmany expensive works not easily accessible for thegeneral reader. The story of forty centuries iscarried down to the present year, and reliance ischiefly placed on monumental information.
