THE nature and effects of that unhappyand disgraceful branch of commerce,which has long been maintained on the Coastof Africa, with the sole, and professed designof purchasing our fellow-creatures, in orderto supply our West-India islands and the Americancolonies, when they were ours, withSlaves; is now generally understood. So muchlight has been thrown upon the subject, bymany able pens; and so many respectable personshave already engaged to use their utmostinfluence, for the suppression of a traffic, whichcontradicts the feelings of humanity; that itis hoped, this stain of our National characterwill soon be wiped out.
