PRELIMINARY.

The great and deserved success of “The Secret Out;or, One Thousand Tricks in Drawing-Room or WhiteMagic,” edited by W. H. Cremer, Jun., of Regentstreet, has suggested an entirely new Edition of thesame Author’s world-famous “Hanky Panky: Very EasyTricks and Very Difficult Tricks, Diversions with Dice,Conjuring with Cards, Jugglery with and withoutAssistants, Gamblers’ Deceptions Exposed.” The Publisherhas again secured the services of Mr. Cremer—thegentleman whose wonderful display of the Toys ofthe World attracted so much notice in the recent InternationalExhibition—and an eminently entertaining, but, at the same time, thoroughly practical, book isnow before the reader.

The present work, therefore, may be considered inthe light of a supplement or addition to the Author’swell-known “Magician’s Own Book.”

The Publisher will, he trusts, be pardoned for heredirecting attention to another book of this class, “TheArt of Amusing,” a Collection of graceful Arts, Games,Tricks, Puzzles, and Charades, considered by TheAthenæum as being “the best and most entertainingwork of the kind with which we are acquainted.”

A companion volume, under the title of “TheMerry Circle: A Book of New Games and IntellectualAmusements,” with nearly Two Hundred Illustrations, has just been issued by Mrs. Clara Bellew.
