It seems but fitting, that I shouldpreface this story of my life with afew notes of instruction.
The desire to leave behind me somerecollections of my life, has been cherishedby me, for many years past; but failingstrength or increasing infirmities have preventedits accomplishment.
At my suggestion and with whatassistance I have been able to render,my son, Ross Charles Edward Stowe, hascompiled from my letters and journals, thisbiography. It is this true story of mylife, told for the most part, in myown words and has therefore all theforce of an autobiography.
It is perhaps much more accurateas to detail & impression than ispossible with any autobiography, writtenlater in life.
If these pages, shall help those whoread them to a firmer trust in God& a deeper sense of His fatherly goodnessthroughout the days of our earthly pilgrimageI can say with Valiant for Truthin the Pilgrim's Progress!
