Theexperiences related in the followingpages are simply the individualfortunes of a subaltern of the IndianArmy Reserve of Officers who had his firsttaste of fighting at the battle of Ctesiphon,and was afterwards taken prisoner by theTurks with the rest of the Kut Garrison,ultimately succeeding in escaping from AsiaMinor. It is not intended to generalize inany way, since an individual, unless of exaltedrank, sees as a rule only his own small environmentand cannot pretend to speak forthe majority of his comrades.
The book is published in the hope thatit may prove of interest to the many relativesand friends of the Kut prisoners.
