A History of the Sciences has been plannedto present for the information of the generalpublic a historic record of the great divisionsof science. Each volume is the work of awriter who is accepted as an authority on hisown subject-matter. The books are not to beconsidered as primers, but present thoroughlydigested information on the relations borne byeach great division of science to the changes inhuman ideas and to the intellectual developmentof mankind. The monographs explainhow the principal scientific discoveries havebeen arrived at and the names of the workersto whom such discoveries are due.
The books will comprise each about 200 pages.Each volume will contain from 12 to 16 illustrations,including portraits of the discoverersand explanatory views and diagrams. Eachvolume contains also a concise but comprehensivebibliography of the subject-matter. Thefollowing volumes will be issued during thecourse of the autumn of 1909.
