He has, therefore, endeavoredthroughout the historical portion of this series toindicate the general historic background of all particularhistorical events sufficiently to set these particularevents in their relations to what was going on at thetime in the world generally.
In addition to the supplementary reading indicatedin the several volumes which follow, the writer venturesto hope that the students will familiarize themselveswith some good general text book on modernhistory.
