Eddowes’s Shrewsbury JournalOffices,
1889.
The following pages were written, at the request of theIncumbent of Battlefield, with the object of giving to thenumerous visitors to Battlefield Church some historical anddescriptive notices of that venerable fabric, together with abrief account of the Battle of Shrewsbury, and of the foundationof the College. They are reprinted, with a few correctionsand additions, from Eddowes’s Shrewsbury Journal, inwhich they first appeared.
The writer has consulted Owen and Blakeway, Dugdale, Dukes,Brookes, and other well-known authorities; but ventures to thinkthat some hitherto unknown facts, which have been brought tolight through researches at the Public Record Office and PublicLibraries, will be found here given for the first time. Hehas in view a History, on a larger scale, of this mostinteresting College and Church, and will be grateful for anyadditional documents or items of information relatingthereto.
February, 1889.
