In nineteen hundred and eleven, Mr. James Sprunt of Wilmington, NorthCarolina, by a gift to the Trustees of Union Theological Seminary inVirginia, established a lectureship in the Seminary for the purpose ofenabling the institution to secure from time to time the services ofdistinguished men as special lecturers on subjects connected withvarious departments of Christian thought and Christian work. Thelecturers are chosen by the Faculty and a committee of the Board ofTrustees, and the lectures are published after their deliveryin accordance with a contract between the lecturer and theserepresentatives of the institution.
