PREFACE.

In preparing the Second Edition of this little volumeof tales from the Northern Mythology for the press, the Authors have thought it advisable to omit theconversations at the beginning and end of thechapters, which had been objected to as breaking thecourse of the narrative. They have carefully revisedthe whole, corrected many inaccuracies and addedfresh information drawn from sources they had nothad an opportunity of consulting when the volumefirst appeared. The writers to whose works theAuthors have been most indebted, are Simrock,Mallet, Laing, Thorpe, Howitt and Dasent.
