PREPARED BY
ALBERT MAXFIELD and ROBERT BRADY, Jr.
In offering this Sketch, Roster and Statistical Record of theservices of Company D in the War of the Rebellion, to its members, wewish to acknowledge the kind assistance given in its preparation by themen of D and of the Eleventh; also of that given by citizen friends inMaine, in tracing the fate of members of the Company who have wanderedout of view in the twenty-five years that have passed since they weremustered out; and to acknowledge that of Captain Thomas Clark of theOffice of the Adjutant-General of Maine, he having kindly furnished uswith valuable and necessary information.
In reading the Sketch, members of D will kindly remember that it iswritten from one point of view only, and that many things they wouldlike to see in it that are not there, may not have been sufficientlywell remembered by the writer, if he ever knew them, to enable him toset them down in a trustworthy manner, and, too, that the limitationsof space and the unity of the sketch made it necessary for him toleave out many things that he himself would have been glad to haveincorporated in the story he had to tell.
The Roster and Statistical Record is as complete as it has seemedpossible to make it. That there are blanks where there should beinformation is not at all the fault of the compiler, he having soughtdiligently but unsuccessfully for the information the blank spacesshould furnish.
