In New England, on the outskirts of Whitman, Massachusetts, stands a lovely old Cape Cod house. Backin the early 1700’s it was used as a toll house wherepassengers changed their horses, dined, and paidtheir toll charges.
THE TOLL HOUSE AT WHITMAN, MASS.
It was here in 1930 that Ruth Wakefield, a well-knowndietician and lecturer, started her now famous inn, calling it “The Toll House,” where old-fashioned favoritesand new recipes are carefully prepared andserved in a modern atmosphere.
Among these delicious recipes which Mrs. Wakefieldhas created is the new and different kind of chocolatecookie. This recipe listed on the opposite page, istaken from Mrs. Wakefield’s own cook book. All otherrecipes contained in this booklet have been derivedfrom other sources.
There is a taste surprise in these tender, goldenbrown Toll House cookies. A creamy bit of Nestlé’sSemi-Sweet Chocolate and the flavor of walnut makea particularly happy combination. Only with Nestlé’sSemi-Sweet Chocolate can you achieve this perfectblend of flavor.
